Captain Jack PH: The Fire That Never Died (Part 2)

Part II – Still Burning, Still Here

“Masaya naman. Makulit yung tropa pero seryoso sa musika.” That was Stephen, the band’s newest guitarist, summing up the strange chemistry that defines Captain Jack PH. The band that began as a GC joke is now a fire that refuses to die—blazing louder after every gig, and burning through the walls that cage most indie metal acts.

Captain Jack PH isn’t just another underground band clinging to old riffs and louder-than-life egos. They’re raw, emotional storytellers with strings, drums, and battle scars to show for it.

The Gap Year That Wasn’t

After their last major gig in early 2024, Captain Jack PH didn’t break up. They just vanished—no farewell post, no dramatic send-off. Life simply caught up.

“Busy sa trabaho,” EL shrugs. “Tsaka may mga pinagdadaanan din kami bawat isa.” The band had been grinding non-stop. The stage lights dimmed—not from failure, but from fatigue.

For Genesis, it wasn’t about losing the fire—it was being forced to cage it.
“Sobrang naging stagnant ako that time,” he confesses. “Pero kahit may pause, ‘yung mga riff sa utak ko, ‘di ko mapigil. May mga gabing hindi ako makatulog kasi may tunog sa utak ko.”

Even in silence, music kept calling.

Evredt felt the same ache. “Nagpahinga nga tayo, pero sa totoo lang, na-miss ko ‘yung ingay. Na-miss kong makisigaw sa crowd, na-miss ko kayong lahat.”

So when Bay Lounge sent out an invite—no questions were asked.

Genesis remembers it clearly. “Wala sa plano ‘yun. Pero pag nagising ‘yung gig itch, wala na, gigil lahat.”

That night, they didn’t just perform—they exploded. “Sobrang saya nun,” EL recalls. “First gig ulit namin after months. Kahit sabog sabog pa, solid pa rin.”

The Shows: No Fans, Just Family

Captain Jack PH doesn’t show up to impress—they show up to release. Their gigs aren’t sets. Explosive. Emotional. Loud in all the right ways.

And the people who come?

They’re not just fans. They’re family.

“Grabe yung suporta ng tropa,” Evredt says. “May mga time na parang gusto na naming sumuko, pero sila ‘yung dahilan kung bakit kami bumabalik.”

Jhaye adds, “Nakakaiyak minsan, ‘pag after ng gig may lalapit at sasabihin, ‘Bro, ‘yung kanta niyo, ang galing.”

They’re deeply thankful for the people who stood by them—those who stuck around through the long silences, who came to the smallest bar gigs, shared meals, carried amps, or just showed up when it mattered.

It’s never been about building a scene—it’s always been about nurturing a circle.

The ones who cheered the loudest, even when the venue wasn’t full. The ones who stayed after shows just to hang. The ones who believed, even when the band didn’t.

They know who they are. And Captain Jack PH is endlessly grateful.

The Sound: Technical, Heavy, Human

Their music has teeth.

Leaning more into progressive metal, Captain Jack PH has carved out a sound that’s as intricate as it is unrelenting. Harmonized guitars weave through each other like twin serpents, while the bass doesn’t just hold it down—it drives like a spine through chaos. EL’s drums? A war drum with jazz timing. Surgical but soulful.

Then there’s Jhaye. That voice. A switchblade of expression—from clean, aching melodies to deep, guttural growls that shake the walls.

“We’re not here para lang tumunog ng malakas,” says Genesis. “May meaning bawat arrangement. Bawat tugtog, may dahilan.”

It’s not just noise—it’s controlled fire, and every track is another burn mark in their ongoing story.

The Future: Fire Doesn’t Die, It Spreads

They’re not aiming for clout. They’re aiming for connection.

“Wala kaming label. Pero meron kaming tunay na tunog,” Genesis says. “And if that’s enough to reach one lost soul out there—mission accomplished.”

So, what’s next?

New songs are on the way. Still under wraps. But if you’ve ever screamed alone in your room or whispered to survive—this one’s for you.

And they’re not stopping there. New music. More gigs. Bigger sounds. Maybe even that long-overdue album. (“Wala pa kaming final tracklist,” Genesis teases. “Pero ‘yung theme? Mas malalim. Mas masakit. Mas kami.”)

Meet the Captains Behind the Mayhem

Before the next stage dive, know the names:

🎸 Genesis – Founding riff-wizard. Pain-turned-power. Always ten steps ahead with that next breakdown in his head.

🥁 EL – Groove scientist. Quiet offstage, beast behind the kit. Chill in slippers, thunder in timing.

🎤 Jhaye – Vocal chameleon. Soft when you least expect it. Savage when it counts. More poet than people realize.

🎸 Stephen – The newest soldier, but already a lifer. Shreds like he’s always belonged. Brings both chops and charm.

🎸 Evredt – Bass backbone. No-nonsense and all heart. If Captain Jack PH is a ship, he’s the keel.
